Predator Free 2050 and Battle For Our Birds. What’s the difference?
Our speaker this month is Andrew Stych from DOC in Hamilton and his subject- Predator Free 2050 and Battle For Our Birds. What’s the difference?
'Predator Free 2050 and Battle For Our Birds are two major national programmes that receive a lot of media coverage and cause a lot of controversy. While these two programmes share a lot in common, their objectives are not the same and the Department of Conservation has a very different role in each one. What are they, what is DOC’s role, and – maybe – why the controversy?'
Anyone who enjoys our unique bush will have noticed an almost complete absence of birds which contrast vividly with the accounts of early settlers who said that the air was full of birdsong. This will be a very interesting speaker.
The meeting is 1.30pm Wednesday 21 August at St Mark's Church Hall, Te Aroha. Entrance $3 which includes tea and biscuits. Hope to see you there
