Wharekirauponga (Whangamata)

This track is an old horse-drawn tram track (muddy in places). It passes unusual andesitic rock formations enroute to the old camp and battery site for the Royal Standard Goldmine.

Beyond the battery site and tunnel are the Wharekiraponga Falls.

The loop track beyond this point is steep and slippery in places.

The track starts at the end of Parakawai Quarry Road, 2 km south of the Wentworth Valley near Whangamata.
