ECHO WALKING FESTIVAL - Mt Te Aroha - Peak 3 of 4 Peak Challenge
Sunday 09 April 2017, from 08:30am

WALK Grade: 5

Following the shortest route to the summit, the track ascends almost 1 km.  It follows a well benched track for 45 minutes to the Whakapipi Lookout which offers views over the Hauraki Plains.

The Kaimai-Mamaku Forest Park begins just above the Whakapipi lookout and then ascends up for approximately two hours to the summit.  A good level of fitness is required as the track becomes steep and the surface is rough.

Mount Te Aroha provides 360 degree views across the Waikato and Bay of Plenty.  Ruapehu, Ngāuruhoe and Taranaki are visible on a clear day.  Be prepared for alpine weather conditions at the summit.

The group will return via the Tui Mine Loop Track which has a steep descent over a rocky section past the Tui Mine before meandering down through lowland forest of püriri and kohekohe.

Walk through regenerating native forest and shallow mountain streams to reach the Mokena Geyser in the Te Aroha Domain.
