Te Aroha Club donated $600 to Te Aroha Volunteer Fire Brigade and Te Aroha and District Community Hospital.

The money was raised from the club's annual fish auction last month.

"We decided to give each organisation $600 to be fair," communications officer Dave Willetts said. "They both do so much for the community."

Chief fire officer Linsday Spooner said the brigade will put the money towards a new GPS (global positioning system) unit.

"We have a small unit in one truck and a second one will make sure both trucks are covered at all times," Mr Spooner said.

"It will helps us to relay co-ordinates to rescue helicopters flying into an accident to pick patients up."

Te Aroha and District Community Hospital general manager Ann Inglis said the hospital will put the money towards much-needed equipment such as beds.

"We are always needing extra beds. This week I have six new patients coming in and we are looking after more and more people who have had operations through a private health system," Mrs Inglis said.
