Organisation:Forest and Bird
Event:WAIRERE FALLS - GUIDED WALK
Venue:Goodwin Road - off Old Te Aroha Road
Date:Saturday 20 March 2010
Time:10:00 AM
Details:3-4 hours return walking track. The Wairere Falls track takes walkers though a beautiful, diverse range of natural scenery. Besides the spectacular 153m high falls there are beautiful river falls and cascades, a fine grove of nikau, puriri and kohekohe, and upper section of track takes you through tree ferns and totara in native forest. The falls lookout and summit offer magnificent views of the valley and the Waikato Plains. In the summer there are plenty of pools to wade and paddle in. The falls drop 153m over the steep escarpment, which is part of the Okauia fault line. This walk is one of 5 'peak walks' to high vantage points within the Kaimai Mamaku Forest Park. DIRECTIONS - Please meet at the road end of Goodwin Road (off Old Te Aroha Road) at 10am.
